Musical Entertainment at Campsites: How to Book Summer Gigs?
3 to 5-star campsites recruit entertainers and musicians every summer for their evening events. This seasonal market, with little off-season competition, can fill an entire summer calendar.
The Campsite Entertainment Market: What You Need to Know
In France, 3, 4 and 5-star campsites are legally required to provide entertainment for their guests during peak season. This creates a structural, year-on-year demand for musical performances, themed evenings and outdoor shows.
The ideal profile for this market: a musician or band who can play outdoors, with their own PA system, a varied repertoire and a real stage presence. Campsites are above all looking for artists who get people dancing and create a festive atmosphere.
The Right Time to Prospect
The recruitment window is short and predictable:
- January to March: managers and entertainment coordinators plan the summer season. This is the ideal time to send your proposals.
- April: final confirmations, replacing artists who have dropped out. A follow-up can still pay off.
- May–June: some campsites are looking for last-minute replacements. Useful if you have open dates.
Contacting a campsite in July to play in August is almost always too late — programmes are already printed and posted.
What Format to Propose?
Campsites have varying needs depending on their size and positioning:
- Dance evenings: 2–3 hour sets, pop/variety music, international hits, summer anthems. A highly requested format for Fridays and Saturdays.
- Aperitivo concerts: 1–1.5 hours in the late afternoon, more relaxed atmosphere, acoustic music or gypsy jazz.
- Themed evenings: 80s night, Latin night, country night… These formats help campsites structure their weekly programme.
- Family shows: if you have a daytime repertoire suitable for children, it's a welcome add-on.
Offer two or three distinct packages with clear pricing: entertainment managers need to be able to choose easily.
Where to Find Campsites to Target
The south of France has the highest density of classified campsites: Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence, Côte d'Azur, Aquitaine. But the Massif Central, Brittany and the Alps also offer great opportunities.
- Campsite federations (FNHPA, Camping Qualité, Castels & Camping) publish their directories online.
- Booking platforms (Camping.com, Homair, Flower…) list campsites with their facilities and ratings.
- Our Campings Sud France pack centralises verified contacts for entertainment managers and site directors, updated for 2026, for efficient outreach without manual sorting.
Writing a Proposal That Converts
Your contact is the entertainment manager or, at smaller sites, the director directly. Your email should be short, visual and professional.
- Compelling subject line: "Summer 2026 live entertainment – [Your name] – dance nights & aperitivo concerts"
- One introductory sentence: your musical style, your equipment (self-contained PA = strong selling point), your outdoor experience if you have any.
- Your packages and rates: a clear list with per-performance pricing. Don't make the prospect ask "how much is it?"
- A performance video from an outdoor or festive setting — a YouTube or Vimeo link is much better than a heavy attachment.
- Your availability: list your free weeks in July–August. The more specific, the easier it is to fit you into the schedule.
Equipment and Logistics: Planning Ahead to Avoid Nasty Surprises
Campsite performances almost always take place outdoors or under a marquee. Acoustic conditions are very different from an indoor venue. A few things to watch out for:
- Power supply: check the availability and power capacity of outlets before your set. Some campsites have outdated installations. Bring a sturdy extension lead and a power strip.
- Bad weather: have waterproof covers for your equipment. Clarify with the campsite what happens in case of rain — backup indoor space or postponement.
- Volume levels: campsites are subject to noise regulations at night. Find out what hours are allowed and respect requested volume levels. An artist who follows the rules is an artist who gets re-booked.
- Music curfew: most campsites stop amplified music at 10:30 pm or 11 pm under their internal rules. Structure your set accordingly.
A musician who is organised and professional on these logistical points makes a lasting impression on the entertainment manager — and considerably increases their chances of being called back the following summer.
Making the Most of the Season: Think in Networks
A campsite happy with your performance will gladly recommend you to their neighbours. Always ask for written feedback and, if possible, an introduction. Some musicians build a network of 5–8 campsites in a geographic area and perform on consecutive evenings of the week.
To get this momentum going quickly, our Geo Campaign service sends your proposal to a large number of campsites in a chosen region, with response tracking included. Ideal for filling a summer calendar without spending your winters prospecting. You can also consult our methodology to structure your follow-ups.
