Playing Italian campsites: two months of dates, and often a bed
Twenty or thirty evenings in a single summer, in one area, without repacking. Calendars close in March, not June — and the most important line in your message is not your repertoire, it is that you can play at a contained volume.
Two months of concentrated work, with a bed thrown in
Entertainment work in Italian campsites is one of the few circuits where a musician can fit twenty or thirty evenings into a single summer, in the same area, without repacking every night. The range listed on this pack runs from €250 to €700 per evening depending on the act, and accommodation is often provided on site — which changes the final arithmetic entirely compared with a tour where you pay for hotels.
It is also a less crowded market than France: fewer artists look for it, and entertainment managers receive fewer proposals.
The season, and the window to make contact
The evenings cluster in July and August, extending into June and the first half of September on the coast. But the calendars are built in spring, from March to May. Writing in June means writing once the season is closed; writing in November means writing to a deserted campsite where nobody reads email.
Who decides, and what they actually want
Your contact is the entertainment manager, or the owner directly in smaller sites. This is not a music programmer: it is someone who has to fill an evening for holidaying families, without incident and without complaints.
That changes what belongs in your message entirely. Your artistic background does not interest them. Five things do, in this order:
- Volume. There are cabins thirty metres from the stage and children asleep. Anyone who says up front that they can play at a contained volume and stop at midnight has already won half the negotiation.
- Self-sufficiency. Your own PA, set up in an hour, no technician required.
- Repertoire. A mixed family audience, often with foreign guests. Someone who sings in Italian, French, English and Spanish is worth more than a specialist.
- Length. Two or three short sets with breaks beat a single concert: people come and go, eat, put children to bed.
- The price, all in. Travel included or not, and whether you need to sleep on site.
The detail that makes the difference
Ask whether accommodation is available — it is normal in this circuit, and the answer changes your price. A lower fee with a cabin included can pay better than a higher one with two hotel nights at your expense. Saying so openly marks you as someone who knows the trade.
Chaining dates instead of collecting them
The real value of this circuit is not the fee for one evening: it is density. On the Adriatic coast, in Liguria or around the lakes, campsites almost touch. Fifteen of them within a forty-kilometre radius is a month of work without changing accommodation, at negligible travel cost.
That means thinking in areas, never in isolated dates. Block a fortnight, write to every campsite in that radius announcing your availability, and let them divide up the evenings between them. A manager who cannot do Tuesday will often offer Thursday — which he would never do if you had asked for one specific date.
And next year is decided there
A campsite that had a good evening with you will not look for a replacement. This is a trade where people hire out of relief more than enthusiasm: finding a reliable act takes time, and nobody wants to start again. Ask before you leave whether you can come back next summer — the answer is often yes, and it costs you one sentence.
The mistakes that sink an approach here
Sending a concert press kit. Dark stage photographs, reviews, club credits: none of it speaks to someone organising a family evening. One outdoor daytime photo with people dancing beats ten stage shots.
Not saying which languages you sing in. It is probably the single most important line in your message, and almost nobody includes it.
Offering one date. A campsite thinks in seasons. Offer availability — "I am in the area from 10 to 25 July" — and you become a solution rather than a request.
What the pack contains, and what it does not
1,436 Italian campsites for €59, each with a technically verified email address. A phone number is present on roughly three rows in four — which matters here, because in high season the phone works far better than email.
The rest is patchier: the town is missing from one row in four, the postcode from one in three, and the postal address from a little over half. For tight geographic work, cross-reference the venue name, which often contains the locality.
A method that works
Pick one coastal or lakeside area and take forty of them. Write in March, follow up by phone in April — the phone is there on three records in four, and in this circuit a two-minute call is worth ten emails. Whoever books you once books you again the following year: entertainment managers change little and hate searching.
To extend the season, agriturismi programme evenings outside the peak months, and weddings occupy exactly the same summer weekends at higher fees.
