Complete Italy pack: four circuits, four calendars, one file
Four entries in ten are hospitality, and that is exactly where a foreign musician starts getting paid in Italy. How to work a file you never open all at once.
What "all of Italy" actually means
Let us clear up at once the misunderstanding that would make you buy this pack for the wrong reasons: its 25,073 contacts are not 25,073 concert halls. Slightly more than four entries in ten belong to hospitality — farm stays, campsites, hotels. The rest divides between public culture (towns, libraries, museums, cultural venues), the voluntary sector (Pro Loco, social clubs, parishes), care homes, festivals, and a fringe of tourism services that programme nothing themselves.
Put that way it sounds like a flaw. It is in fact the shape of the Italian live music market, and the reason a general pack makes sense here when it would make little elsewhere.
Why hospitality is the right way in
A foreign musician arriving in Italy almost never starts with a theatre. He starts on a farm-stay terrace, at a campsite evening, at a hotel aperitivo — because those are the only places that decide quickly, pay by the night, and do not demand three Italian references first.
Those first dates are not a consolation prize, they are the currency for everything else. Once you can write to a theatre's management citing eight evenings played in Lombardy the previous summer, you are no longer an unknown applying: you are an artist already working in the country. That is precisely what most foreign applications rejected by Italian stages are missing.
Four circuits living inside one file
The mistake would be to treat these 25,073 lines as a single list. There are four, and each has its own calendar, its own contact and its own kind of message.
Hospitality works from May to September and closes its diaries in spring. Public culture — 1,438 towns, plus libraries and museums — runs on an annual budget voted early in the year, with talk-and-concert series and patron saint festivities. Festivals programme in winter for the following summer. Theatres and stages build their season between February and May. Writing to those four families in the same month, with the same text, guarantees being off-topic for three of them.
The voluntary circuit, the most underrated
Pro Loco, social clubs, parishes: these are the organisations nobody talks about and which, measured in evenings, keep a considerable share of Italian live music alive. They run the sagre, the village feasts, the summer concerts in the square. Their budgets are modest but their decisions are fast, taken by one reachable person, and their loyalty is remarkable: a satisfied association rebooks you the next year without asking anyone's permission.
It is also the circuit where being foreign becomes an argument rather than an obstacle. A festivities committee trying to distinguish its edition from the neighbouring village's finds in a foreign band exactly the billing it would not otherwise have had.
What the file gives, and what it does not
All 25,073 email addresses passed domain verification. The town is filled in on 90 % of entries and the postcode on 74 %, which allows the only genuinely useful operation on a file this size: slicing by area and building a tour that holds together geographically.
The gaps are real and unevenly spread. 45 % of entries carry a phone number, 52 % a website, and only 31 % a complete postal address. In practice, hospitality and towns are better documented than festivals, which often have nothing but an email and a site. If your method rests on phoning, this pack will leave you short on more than half its lines.
Do not use it as a list
A file this size is worked in successive extractions, never in one block. Pick a region, pick a circuit, pick the matching season, and write only to that subset with a message written for it. Fifty targeted messages will produce more than two thousand identical ones, and will spare you this trade's only real sanction: being filed as unwanted by an entire family of recipients at a stroke.
The file also reads backwards. Once you have a date somewhere, reopen it filtering on the surrounding postcodes: the evening you already hold justifies the journey, and two or three neighbouring venues approached with that argument accept far more readily than from cold.
A word on the format
Three of the Italian packs sold separately at €59 come to €177 together, more than this complete file. The trade-off is therefore not about price but about method: one large pack is better if you intend to work Italy across several seasons and several circuits, a targeted pack is better if you already know you will approach only one kind of venue.
