Music Festivals and Venues in France: 6,000 programming opportunities

France is one of Europe's countries with the highest density of festivals. Each year, more than 6,312 festivals, contemporary music venues (SMAC), equipped halls and live performance spaces program paid professional artists. This reality encompasses very different worlds: major national summer festivals with tens of thousands of attendees, but above all hundreds of mid-sized festivals (2,000 to 10,000 admissions) and small community festivals that represent the majority of real opportunities for a developing artist.

Seasonality is very pronounced: June, July and August account for around 70% of festival dates. But SMACs and concert halls (Zénith, certified venues) operate throughout the season, from September to June, with monthly or even bi-weekly programming. The pack covers both worlds.

Geographically, the best-served regions are Occitania, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Brittany, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Île-de-France. But every French region has several dozen active festivals — including overseas territories and Corsica.

Which artists is this pack for?

This pack is aimed at artists targeting professional paid programming, with fees declared via GUSO or a performance contract. Relevant profiles:

  • Music groups (rock, pop, folk, electronic, metal, hip-hop, jazz) with a released EP or album
  • Singer-songwriters with a structured stage project (at least 45-minute live set)
  • DJs and electronic artists targeting electronic stages and festival nights
  • Live performance companies offering hybrid formats (music + circus, music + theatre)
  • Jazz bands and acoustic ensembles looking for residencies and themed festivals

The pack is less suited to musicians looking solely for event entertainment (weddings, care homes) — for those uses, other LiveContact packs are more targeted.

Concrete advantages: why this file changes your outreach

Contacting a festival without a direct contact means sending an email to a generic address (contact@festival.fr) that ends up in a shared inbox read at low priority. The LiveContact pack identifies, where possible, the programmer or artistic director by name, which significantly increases open and response rates.

  • DNS/MX lookup-verified emails, updated for 2026
  • Segmentation included: festival type (music, live performance, SMAC), region, estimated capacity
  • Instant delivery + 30-day guarantee

If you want to delegate the writing and sending of your artistic dossier, our outreach service manages the campaign from A to Z.

Prospecting tips: the festival calendar

When should you send your artistic dossier?

Summer festival programmers make their decisions 6 to 12 months in advance. The ideal calendar:

  1. September – November: best window for the following summer's festivals (June-August N+1). Budgets have just been approved, programmers are available after the season.
  2. January – February: second wave for festivals that finalize their programming later
  3. March – April: for autumn festivals and SMACs programming the October-December season

How to structure your dossier?

An effective presentation dossier for a festival should fit on one page: quality live photo, 150-word biography, 2 links (listening + concert video), summarized technical rider, and a clear fee proposal. Programmers receive hundreds of dossiers: readability takes precedence over completeness.

What the delivered file contains

The Music Festivals & Venues FR pack (6,312 contacts, 79 €) is delivered instantly after payment in three formats:

Frequently asked questions

Is this pack suitable for an artist just starting their professional career? +

The pack is most effective for artists with at least one release (EP, single, album) and a presentable concert video. Festivals and SMACs look for projects that already have an audience, even a modest one. If you are just starting out, begin by targeting small community festivals (under 1,000 attendees) and certified open stages, which are more accessible to emerging artists.

What is the difference between a festival and a SMAC? +

A SMAC (Contemporary Music Venue) is a venue certified by the Ministry of Culture that programs year-round (concerts, residencies, cultural activities). A festival is a one-off event, usually concentrated over a few days. The pack includes both types, giving you access to opportunities throughout the year and not just in summer.

Are the contacts those of programmers or generic addresses? +

The database contains a mix: for larger venues, we have been able to identify named contacts (artistic director, programming officer). For smaller festivals, the email is that of the organizing association's office. In all cases, the email is verified as active. Personalizing your email by mentioning the festival's name and a recent date from their programming significantly increases response rates.

Can I target only my region? +

Yes. The Excel file is filterable by region and department. You can therefore start with local prospecting (20 to 50 festivals in your region) before expanding nationally. This approach is recommended: local programmers are more accessible, and a first regional concert can serve as a reference for national festivals.

How long does it take to get a response from a festival? +

Lead times vary greatly. Some programmers respond within 2 weeks, others take 2 to 3 months or don't respond until their next programming cycle. Plan for one follow-up 3 to 4 weeks after your initial send — this is standard practice and is well received. Avoid multiple follow-ups, which could harm your image.
